Neches River Father/Son Camp

by | Mar 23, 2017 | Camp Reports, ALERT Cadet

Welcome home! We made it!!!! Forty miles down the river. We had to contend with the heat and the cold. And of course the wind, which always seemed to be blowing against us. All were strong to overcome. By now you should have all the sand out of your ears and toes. We were blessed with some wonderful weather and dry sandbars to sleep on. We left with 54 souls and returned with the same. No one tipped over, which is a good thing. But we all should have been prepared if we had.  Once again, thank you all for participating in the camp. I had a great time and hope all of you did as well.

God Bless,
Dan Schlichter

Day 1: 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM = 5.0 Hours going 12 miles = 2.4 mph (includes 1 break for promotions and lunch and 1 other break)

Day 2: 09:00 AM – 4:00 PM = 7.0 Hours going 20 miles = 2.85 mph (includes 2 breaks and 1 lunch stop)

Day 3: 10:00 AM – 1:30 PM = 3.5 Hours going 8.5 miles = 2.4 mph (includes  1 hour lunch break)

Totals:  40.5 miles / 15.5 hours = 2.61 mph average including all lunches and breaks (breaks average 30 minutes and lunch 1 hour) We averaged 3.5 to 4.0 mph when on the water (excluding breaks).  If you are moving at 4.0 mph and every 1.5 hours you take a 30 minute break you will then average 3.0 mph.
